I’m Mark Sutherland. Welcome to my website!
Promotion is a way to reward and retain the best employees in your organisation. In theory, sound preparation, support (and a little luck) will see the new leader quickly settle into his or her new role.
In practice, operational demands restrict the time available for preparation and support. When this happens, the transition can be very stressful as the new leader gets to grips with people management.
The problems he or she may face typically include:
- the challenge of changing relationships with ex-colleagues who are now reports;
- insufficient confidence;
- no formal management training;
- sub-optimal decisions in stressful situations;
- dwelling on real or perceived mistakes;
- worrying about work on the week-ends.
That’s where I come in. I draw upon my knowledge and experience to guide new managers and supervisors in navigating the tricky path ahead. I answer the questions and problems that may arise and show them the techniques, frameworks and mindsets to succeed.
